Five lucky Bradford projects are set to share more than a £1 million in European money.

The EU hopes the Objective Two funding will help in the economic regeneration of the district.

Each scheme will get a share of £1,185,500 - part of a £3 million pot of cash directed to West Yorkshire.

The five winning projects are:

l £132,257 for the Arc Link Project, a community-based social and economic development scheme on the Canterbury estate

l £59,220 for "Aims" which will train 40 workers in the voluntary and community sector to professional qualification standard

l £121,200 for "Bfunded Together", a Council project which provides one-to-one funding advice for the voluntary and community sector in the city

l £470,453 for "Pact Co-ordinator Project Phase Two", to continue the work of the district's Pact co-ordination team which was set up to help ten community boards access additional money to spend in their areas

l £402,371 for Bradford Youthbuild Trust's "Community Build Phase Two", a project which helps train young, unemployed people for careers in the construction industry and funds itself by renting out the properties its trainees refurbish.

Will Jennings, of the Youthbuild Trust, said the money would add to the income it gets from renting.

He said: "This will hopefully make us sustainable.

"We hope to end up with 20 to 25 properties with rental income that will help us meet our core funding costs, which means we can now expand our work into Keighley and Shipley."

The Objective Two programme is aimed at boosting the region's economy by improving competitiveness, encouraging innovation, introducing new jobs and helping existing businesses.

Experts from the private, public and voluntary sectors helped to identify which projects were recommended for grant aid.

Alison Biddulph, director for Europe of the Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber, said: "These announcements represent an important, continuing investment in the region's economic and social future.

"Not only will it bring immediate benefits to a wide range of people and communities but also, by boosting business development and employment prospects in the region, it will lay the foundations for a secure and prosperous future."
