Champagne cricket secured a maximum 12 points from Keighley's two weekend fixtures.

The club have now moved into fourth pla ce and are showing the form and consistency of serious promotion contenders.

Hartshead Moor were the visitors to Lawkholme Lane on Saturday and inserted Keighley in to bat after winning the toss. The opening stand of 42 made a solid platform for the Keighley innings but the fall of the first wicket brought Steven Nicholls to the crease. The prolific Australian once again showed his pedigree with a free flowing 89 not out. His fifth wicket stand of 95 with Robert Hopkinson took the Keighley total to a respectable 233. Hopkinson finished with a dashing 50 not out.

In reply a few of the Hartshead Moor batsmen made decent starts but never mounted a serious challenge to the Keighley total. This was largely due to the mercurial spin bowling of Richard Robinson who finished with the impressive figures of 7-34 from his 16.2 overs.

Whilst victory over Hartshead Moor was pleasing, the acid test was to come on Sunday in the form of second placed Brighouse. The challenge was big but Keighley were equal to it looking every inch promotion material after sweeping Brighouse aside in no uncertain terms. Batting first Keighley accumulated a total of 197. Another solid knock from opener Matthew Bottomley laid the foundation for the Keighley innings. This paved the way for a gritty contribution from Richard Robinson who made a valuable 70.

The Keighley total of 197 whilst respectable does not hold any guarantees against a side of Brighouse's quality. The result however was never in doubt as Keighley brushed aside the home team and title pretenders bowling them out for a paltry 86. It was that man Robinson again who did the damage returning figures of 5-23, backed up by another impressive team performance in the field.

Keighley now have three consecutive home games giving them chance to capitalise on their position and move into the all important promotion slot. The first is this Saturday with the visit of Windhill who will be no pushovers despite their lowly league position.
