SETTLE are within one game of a place at Old Trafford in the final of the Lancashire Cup.

They now face Westhoughton from St Helens in the semi-final, which will be staged at Marshfield on Sunday, August 8 (2pm).

The Marshfield men beat favourites Morecambe in a thrilling game to reach the semi-finals.

Key to success for Settle was another blistering innings from professional Robin Morris, who turned the course of the game after the visitors had taken the initiative in the first 21 overs with some very tight line and length bowling.

Morris signalled his intent to pick up the pace with 23 runs in one over and then proceeded to cane the bowling with some majestic shots in a classic professional's performance.

He struck six sixes and six fours in another scintillating exhibition of attacking stroke-play.

In support, Tim Green gave a class performance and was on his heels in the entertainment stakes. He hit two sixes and five fours in his 48, one of his best displays at Marshfield, which, in tandem with Morris, gave the team a solid platform from which to attack the opposition.

Settle took the whip hand when South African international opener Langveldt was caught by Paul Stafford off Stuart Hornby for a duck and his opening partner Woodhead went for 12 trying to hit out.

The powerful Thornton (34) started to take Morecambe to within striking distance of the Settle total and was quite brutal on John Hughes, but the spinner had the last word when Paul Taylor picked up the catch which accounted for the visiting caption.

Excellent catching by Taylor in the deep and a tight, four-wicket spell by Morris with the ball contributed to Morecambe's demise as they fell for 151, Morris closing with 4-23.
