Brian Noble knows better than most just what Jamie Langley can do.

He handed the Bulls back-rower his senior debut four years ago and has played a major role in his development since.

But the workaholic forward, named in Noble's trimmed down 20-man Great Britain squad for the XXXX Test with New Zealand, realises a sparkling display against St Helens tomorrow night will give his former coach a timely reminder.

Langley is nearing an international debut having survived the cut yesterday when Noble slashed his original 36-man squad for the June 27 meeting.

Three more players will miss out when the clash finally takes place at Knowsley Road but Langley is hoping to make sure he is not one of them.

Delivering a tip-top effort versus Super League leaders Saints at Odsal will help his odds no end.

"It's pretty good and I'm pretty pleased," he said, on hearing news of his inclusion.

"I didn't really have all my hopes up and thought if I did get selected I'd just see it as a bonus.

"I'm trying to concentrate on just playing well for Bradford at the minute and hopefully I'm doing that but it's always a good accolade to get selected.

"It's not something I set my sights on but there's always a chance now and you never know what is going to happen.

"Hopefully if my performances are good then there's always that opportunity.

"It's going to be a tough game with Saints. Everyone is looking forward to it now and it's in these big games that you like to try and perform well.

"On an individual note, I would like to have a big match but I'll be concentrating on the team performance."

That's not surprising as 22-year-old Langley is the archetypal team player with his relentless work-rate in the Bulls pack.

He has some stiff competition for back-row places in Noble's squad - not least Saints and Great Britain skipper Paul Sculthorpe, who the forward will face off against tomorrow.

Leeds' Gareth Ellis, Wigan captain Sean O'Loughlin along with former Bulls team-mates Lee Gilmour and Jamie Peacock are others vying for spots.

Bradford's Stuart Fielden and Terry Newton are both in the squad but there was no place for Paul Deacon or Andy Lynch, while it has been confirmed that fellow Lion Paul Johnson is sidelined for eight weeks.

The second-rower has had an operation on his elbow to pin part of his bone back after it tore away while dislocating in the game at St Helens nearly three weeks ago.

Bulls boss Steve McNamara said: "It's disappointing for us and disappointing for Paul himself but it's one of those things.

"We've got him fixed up, done it as quickly as we can and we'll see how he recovers. Hopefully it'll be a buzz for us getting him back towards the back end of the season."
