Bantams midfielders Ben Muirhead and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson have gone under the knife for post-season operations.

Muirhead underwent hernia surgery on Tuesday and Bridge-Wilkinson has had a minor "clean-up" in his knee.

It is the second time in three months that Muirhead has been treated for a hernia but club physio Steve Redmond stressed it was nothing to do with the original complaint.

Redmond said: "Ben has had the right side, the other side, done. He was just feeling a little bit of pain at the end of the season and the surgeon thought it was better to be treated now rather than wait for pre-season.

"He's not had an occurrence of the other problem, which is fine. Marc's had a little exploratory operation in his knee. It's just a tidy up and next week he will be up and running again.

"It always makes sense to get these things sorted as soon as the season is out the way."

There is good news for long-term casualty Richard Edghill, who should be fit for the beginning of pre-season training on June 29.

Edghill, sidelined since breaking his leg at Colchester three months ago, has begun running again and surgeon Steve Bollen is happy with his progress.

Redmond said: "The fracture is fine, it's just the soft tissue around it which needs a bit more time. It will probably be five or six weeks before he is able to do everything again which means that pre-season should not be a problem.

"Richard is doing really well, although he is not running at any great pace yet."

Two changes have been made to City's pre-season programme.

They will travel to Neil Redfearn's Scarborough on Wednesday July 12 after the scheduled game at Accrington Stanley was cancelled because the league new boys refused to pay City's expenses.

And the friendly with Shrewsbury at Gay Meadow has been brought forward 24 hours to Tuesday July 18.
