COUNCIL TAX continued its skyward march after budgets were approved confirming the largest ever year on year increase since the charge was introduced.
The record rise, of 9.8 per cent for a Band D house means the tax burden for a typical Watford home has soared by 78 per cent in ten years.
Tax on a top rate, Band H home, has risen by 93 per cent in the same period.
Inflation to date since 1993, measured by the all-prices retail index, is 26 per cent.
In 1993, a Band D property in Watford paid £570.65 for all its council services and policing. Next year the figure will top £1,000 for the first time. Band H homes will pay more than £2,000.
