Website will provide an at-a-glance guide to what’s on with City of Film set to launch

A City of Film website has been created to provide a “one-stop shop” for information on film-related events, activities and opportunities in Bradford.

The website, bradford-city-of-film.com, includes details of film screenings, training courses, locations and places of interest for visitors.

It also includes information on the city’s film heritage and why Bradford was chosen to become the world’s first City of Film.

Peg Alexander, City of Film director, said: “It explains what City of Film is all about and the organisations involved.

“You can find out about where to get funding to make films and where to borrow equipment. We have lots of plans for the website and want to make it as interactive as possible.

“People will be able to send in films they have made to be put up on the site, and there will be competitions and reviews. In time we hope all cinema listings will be put up there.”

City of Film events manager Nicky Corp said: “This is the definite one-stop shop to find out what’s going on, when and where. It’s a great place to find out how you can benefit from City of Film.”

The website also includes details of City of Film launch events, which start with a civic reception on Thursday, March 18, to coincide with the opening of Bradford International Film Festival.

Other events to celebrate the launch will be held throughout the first weekend of the festival and include screening opportunities at Bradford Playhouse, a ‘pop-up’ free cinema in an empty shop in Centenary Square and a family fun day at the National Media Museum.

Participation packs containing suggestions of how to mark the launch at home can be downloaded from the website.

Mrs Alexander said: “The idea with the packs is they have some quick ideas of what you can do over the launch weekend to celebrate Bradford’s film status. We want as much film activity to happen as possible so it could be from watching something at the film festival to having some friends round to watch a film at home.”

Why do I get the feeling we are being bombarded about this festival?
.
This need to be promoted wider than the T&A and if you want to attract people to it - hold it in Shipl.. ok no -erm what about keigh... yeah better not- what about ilkley.. might upset the toffs so we better not. Why not hold it in Leeds? Perfect idea. it is generally clean there, the city centre doesn't resemble a place thats just been carpet bombed, it is easy to get to and plenty of places can host films. There is the International Film Festival there every year in November, but this way they will get two good ones!
.
security word: hide-film (you couldn't make it up!)

We do have the National Media Museum here in Bradford and they host the International Film Festival each year here in Bradford.
In past years it as been over 3 weekends but this year only over 2 weekends, so sadly shorter. I note they using other cinemas around West Yorkshire personaly I will only be going to the films showing at the Museums 3 cinemas.
The City of Film people appear to be hi-jacking the Film Festival if the T&A reports are anything to go by.
