Bradford Maroons played their last home fixture in English Basketball League Division Three North on Monday night and completed a trio of victories over teams whom they had lost to earlier in the season.

A trip to the Midlands last weekend was rewarding for the Maroons as, trailing from the first quarter, they won all the subsequent sessions to take the match 83-76, with Dut Malek the top scorer on 25 points, followed by Rihards Sulcs (20) and Dion Irish (17).

The first half of the season was typified by Bradford Maroons surrendering early leads, yet latter performances have seen them reversing deficits to storm to victory, as was the case on Sunday when play-off hopefulls Leeds Carnegie II were the visitors to Parkside and heading for a win with a half-time 50-36 lead.

Maroons turned the game, winning the third quarter 31-15 and finally triumphing 93-82.

Top-scoring for the Maroons was Sulcs, who, with 27 points, maintained his position as the division’s top average points scorer for the month.

Loughborough Cardinals saw their play-off hopes dented on Monday when they left Parkside having been thumped 86-66 by the Maroons.

By the end of the second quarter, Loughborough were trailing 42-33 but were boosted by the controversial fouling out of Dut Malek on the buzzer, and the Maroons were rocked in the next quarter when Sulcs was fouled out too.

Fears that the Cardinals could exploit the Maroons’ misfortune were calmed with the performances of squad players, especially young Sammy Li, who played a big hand on the way to a good win.

Reuben Malek top-scored with 21 points, followed by Sulcs (19) and Irish (18).

This weekend the Maroons are at Manchester Magic II.
