A former Bradford mill worker has celebrated his 100th birthday with family visiting from Australia.
Leslie Kerslake had a party at The Orchards Care Home, Heaton, where he has been a resident for almost a decade.
Born in Manningham as one of three brothers, Mr Kerslake went to school in Lidget Green. He started work as an office clerk in a warehouse before taking the position of assistant designer at a textile mill in Sunbridge Road.
He married Florence in 1942 and they lived with his wife’s mother in Manningham, before moving to Little Lane, Heaton. Florence died in 1999.
Mr Kerslake’s nephew David and members of his extended family from Australia joined him at the care home for the celebrations.
Asked what was the secret of his longevity, Mr Kerslake said: “I just carried on and on and on. I had an allotment until I was 90 when my knees went and I’ve had honey every day for the last eight years.”
