The top two in the UniBond Premier Division come head to head on Saturday as leaders Bradford Park Avenue make the journey to second-placed Retford United.

The big shoot-out will take place at the aptly-named Cannon Park and John Deacey’s Bradford side travel in the knowledge they cannot be toppled from the summit whatever the outcome.

Avenue have a five-point advantage over their hosts and a game in hand.

And they have been boosted by the addition of former Guiseley winger Lee Elam.

The Bradford-born 33-year-old left Nethermoor for a full-time career in non-league and has played for a host of established clubs including Southport, More-cambe, Halifax, Weymouth and Altrincham.

Deacey said: “Lee has joined us and his experience will help. He was at Northwich Victoria in the Blue Square North but fancied a change.

“He has been training with the lads and is as keen as mustard. He used to play for Guiseley and still lives in Bradford.”

Deacey has been struggling with injuries, particularly in defence, but has better news ahead of Saturday's crunch clash.

Right back Stephen Downes was injured in last Saturday’s home win over Stocksbridge and left the field on a stretcher.

In the same game, Amjad Iqbal needed treatment on the shoulder he dislocated earlier in the season.

However, Deacey said: “Downesy will play. Scans revealed it was just bad bruising to his knee and he has responded well this week.

“‘Ammers’ is okay and we should have Mark Hume and Nathan Drury back.

“The only doubt is James Knowles. I think it will be a little while before we have him back. He is still wearing an eye patch following that clash of heads a couple of weeks ago.”

Captain Simon Baldry serves a one-match ban.
