Witness appeal after woman fights off bag snatchers

8:47pm Wednesday 23rd December 2009

A plucky woman fought off would-be robbers who pounced on her in the street.

The victim was walking in Easby Road, near its junction with Ash Grove, Great Horton, Bradford, towards the city centre, when a man tried to pull her handbag from her shoulder.

The woman resisted and after a short struggle the suspect made off empty handed, with a second man, down Ash Grove towards the University.

The main suspect is described as an Asian man, aged 19-20, 5ft 5in to 5ft 6in tall and very skinny. He was wearing a black waist length hooded coat with the hood up and dark jeans.

The second suspect is an Asian male, aged 17 to 18, 5ft 3in to 5ft 4in tall. He was wearing light-coloured traditional Asian clothing, a waist-length jacket and a white skull cap.

Anyone who witnessed the attempted robbery – in particular a taxi driver who pulled up next to the victim or two males in a black vehicle who asked her if she was all right and gave chase – or anyone who has any information about the suspects is asked to contact PC Sarah Hartley or Sergeant Andy Strafford on 0845 6060606, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
