A performance troupe which has in the past courted controversy for poking fun at Islam is to perform in Bradford.
The group of urban artists will perform for families in Bradford as part of a rising trend in Westernised Islamic entertainment.
The Eid Concert Tour, which will visit the Hilton Hotel tomorrow, is headlined by American comedian and convert to Islam, Preacher Moss, whose Allah Made Me Funny tour poked fun at the religion to counter its negative stereotypes.
The concert’s ten-act line-up also includes female poets Poetic Pilgrimage, Somali comic Prince Abdi and hip-hop artists Mecca 2 Medina.
Ismael South, one of the tour’s organisers, said: “We are Muslims but we are from the West. This scene is growing and growing. The concerts appeal to the British Muslim youth, those that are born and bred here, those that may be into comedy, music, rap and poetry.”
Dawud Hendy, the tour’s project manager, said he had run similar events for more than ten years and had seen their popularity increase.
The tour is supporting Bradford-based charity the Human Relief Foundation, which will use funds to help teenage orphans in Iraq improve their vocational skills.
Tickets for the event cost £12 for adults and £6 for children in advance, or £16 and £8 on the door.
