Bradford City’s £100,000 Burns Unit Appeal is a quarter of the way to its target.
After just over three months the total stands at more than £25,000.
Among the most recent contributions is nearly £600 from Bingley artist Jane Fielder. On September 27 Jane, who runs her own gallery in Bingley’s Park Street, painted pictures for auction on the plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square.
She was one of 2,400 successful applicants given an hour to make a positive difference. Jane wanted to raise money for a good cause and chose the Burns Unit.
She said: “I think I got about £300-400 from people who had donated to the justgiving line.
Another £100 came from the auction of paintings and the rest was made up of donations either given to me or pushed through the door of the gallery.
“The total came to just under £600. That’s gone to the appeal now. I am really pleased, I cannot believe it.”
Tomorrow a rummage sale on behalf of the Burns Unit takes place at Saltaire’s Victoria Hall with all proceeds going to the appeal. Next week Saltaire Brewery is re-branding a portion of its popular Saltaire Blonde brew to raise money for the unit.
Every pint of Bantam Blonde sold will add 5p to the appeal. The first pint will be pulled at the company’s Dockfield Road brewery on Friday by former Bradford City star John Hendrie.
Last month a formal fundraising committee was formed.
The 12 members include City’s joint chairman Mark Lawn and David Baldwin, the club’s operations director.
The Telegraph & Argus and Bradford City FC launched the appeal to raise £100,000 for the city’s burns research unit in August.
The unit was set up at Bradford University 25 years ago following the 1985 fire disaster at Valley Parade which killed 56 people and injured more than 190.
The Burns Unit Appeal follows the T&A’s successful 1995 appeal which raised £105,000 – more than double the original £50,000 target – and kept the unit going for another three years.
