West Bowling man caught supplying heroin and crack cocaine

A drug dealer jailed for four and a half years was “a very sad figure” who had visited misery on his wife and children, a Court heard.

Bashir Shah, 32, drove into a police roadblock after officers caught him peddling class A Drugs on bail, Bradford Crown Court was told today.

Shah, of Moulson Court, Newby Square, West Bowling, Bradford, pleaded guilty to supplying heroin and crack cocaine, possessing the class A drugs with intent to supply and driving while disqualified and without insurance on March 13.

Prosecutor Paul Nicholson said Shah told police he had been a heroin addict for ten years and had been street dealing for three months.

On August 20, he was again caught selling heroin and crack cocaine.

When officers closed in at Back Amberley Street, off Leeds Road, Bradford, Shah reversed into a police vehicle blocking his path and hit a lampost.

He told police he and his co-accused, who had since disappeared the court heard, sold 120 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine that day.

Shah said a “Mr Big” paid him up to £30 a day and gave him drugs in return for the mobile street dealing.

Shah admitted dangerous driving, drug dealing and driving with no insurance after his arrest in August.

The court heard he was locked up for three years in 2005 for drug dealing.

Shah’s barrister Elyas Patel said he was being used by others higher up the chain to get drugs on to the streets of the city.

His actions had brought misery on himself, his wife and their two children.

“He cuts a very sad figure indeed,” Mr Patel added.

Recorder Tony Hawks branded Shah an “enthusiastic” street dealer who tried to escape from the police.

After the case, Detective Inspector Neil Benstead, head of the Bradford District Drugs Team, said: “I am pleased with today’s sentence. I hope it will serve as a deterrent to other would-be criminals.

“Drugs cause harm to our communities and we will continue to arrest and bring drugs dealers to justice.”
