Eleanor follows in dad’s footsteps

by Claire Lomax Health Reporter A father and daughter running team pulled on their trainers to raise funds for the Beating Hearts in Bradford Appeal.

Paul Davis, 50, is a veteran of the Great North Run, having taken part in the half-marathon since 1995. Now his seven-year-old daughter Eleanor, of Harden Primary School, is following in his footsteps. She took part in a one-mile run for children.

Their efforts, coupled with that of a friend Eddie Szewczuk, who completed the Birmingham Half Marathon, raised £436 for the British Heart Foundation’s appeal which is backed by the Telegraph & Argus. It aims to raise £105,000 for a 3D echocardiograph machine at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Mr Davis, who owns Harden & Bingley Holiday Park in Harden, where the family lives, said: “Eleanor ran all the way and I am very proud of her.”

The family were inspired by one of their tenants at the park home, Frances Bertram, 65, who has been a volunteer and fundraiser for the BHF for 20 years, and founded the Bingley and Shipley District branch of the BHF.

She began her involvement with the charity after recovering from a virus which attacked her heart and left her with a condition called cardiomyopathy.

Frances also organised an open day at the park in September which raised £1,400 for the appeal.

Beating Hearts in Bradford appeal manager Sue Green said: “It is really lovely that young people like Eleanor are supporting the appeal.”

There are two weeks left to support the appeal via a text message. Donate by texting BHF to 70555.

The text message that donors send will cost the standard network rate. They will receive one message back at a total of £5, of which the Beating Hearts in Bradford Appeal will receive an average of £3.99 (this may vary between individual mobile networks).
