Firefighters have urged people to celebrate safely this Bonfire Night with a graphic poster campaign.

The “gone in a flash” campaign shows how fireworks and bonfires can wreck lives if not used responsibly.

Firefighters and community safety staff have been preparing for Bonfire Night by visiting primary and secondary schools across Bradford to drive home safety messages.

They will also be visiting youth groups to promote safe and sensible behaviour around fireworks and bonfires.

Geoff Crossley, West Yorkshire Fire Service district manager for Bradford, said: “We want everyone to enjoy the bonfire period, but many fires of any kin and small explosives have obvious dangers, which is why we are urging people to take particular care.

“The majority of injuries happen at small parties, so if at all possible, we would encourage members of the public to go to an organised display.

“You will see a fantastic display and it also means you will support local charities and organisations.”

Bradford’s Arson Task Force is also set to pound the streets in the run-up to the big night to ensure no rubbish is left out to tempt potential arsonists.

Last year the county’s firefighters attended 185 bonfire-related incidents between November 1 and 8.
