Keighley Cougars pair Gavin Duffy and Scott Law have both been named in the mythical 2009 Co-operative Championship One ‘All Stars’ team.

The side, selected by the RFL, reflects the players’ form throughout the whole of the season.

Diminutive winger Duffy has been an electric presence all year for Keighley – who finished second in the table – with his exciting bursts from the flank and quality kick returns.

Burly prop Law, meanwhile, has terrorised opponents with his strong-running and big-hitting, winning Co-operative player of the month back in April when Keighley’s front-row options were greatly reduced.

“Both players have played valuable roles in our side and are to be congratulated on being recognised in this way,” said coach Barry Eaton.

“Besides being a great honour for both players, it reflects well upon their team-mates and coaches here at Cougar Park.

“The high quality of the players selected in this year’s Championship One All Star team underlines what a tough competition it has been in 2009 and if it was ever to put its boots on in reality, it would be very difficult to beat.”

Champions Dewsbury Rams predictably dominate the side with six selections – winger Bryn Powell, centre Kane Epati, stand-off Pat Walker, scrum half Liam Finn, second row Andy Bostock and loose forward Adam Hayes.

York City Knights – who Cougars face in a Grand Final Qualifier on Sunday, September 20 – have one pick in prop Mark Applegarth, while full back Jonny Leather (Blackpool), centre Casey Mayberry (Rochdale), hooker Richard Chapman (Hunslet) and second row Chris Baines (Oldham) complete the XIII.
