For the first time major British films will feature at the Saltaire Festival.
Over the two festival weekends in September, Billy Liar, The History Boys, Kes and The Dresser, will be screened in Salt’s Mill.
John Schlesinger’s Billy Liar and Peter Yates’ The Dresser were both partly filmed on location in Bradford in the early 1960s and early 1980s, respectively.
Nicholas Hytner’s The History Boys, is based on Alan Bennett’s hit National Theatre play, and Ken Loach’s Kes, is an adaptation of Barry Hines’ novel A Kestrel For a Knave.
Each of the films will be double-billed with a short film made in Yorkshire: Nick Ahad’s Where You From? Abbe Robinson’s Enid Loosens Up, Shanez Gulzar’s Made in Bruddersford and Jean McEwan’s Angels of Bradford.
The films are being shown as a tribute to film-making in Yorkshire and Bradford’s award as the first UNESCO City of Film.
The films will be shown from 4pm on September 12, 13, 19 and 20. Admission is £4.
