Two hurt as 4x4 crashes at Chain Bar

A driver had to be airlifted to hospital after his Toyota Land Cruiser was involved in an accident on the M62 at the Chain Bar Roundabout today.

Police said the driver lost control on the carriageway, near junction 26 westbound, before the vehicle crashed through fencing and rolled over.

The Toyota landed on its wheels but both the passenger and driver were injured.

Police said the injuries were not believed to be life threatening. Firefighters were called to the scene at about 9.50am.

Crew manager Richard Beevers, of Cleckheaton fire station, said the driver had to be cut out of the car but the passenger was out on their arrival. The driver was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance.

What the hell is it with Chainbar and the M62? Sick of idiots not paying attention and causing holdups for the rest of us.

At least this was at the weekend.

3 bends that some drivers cannot cope with. Worse thing that ever happened the +2 lane exit M606 SBC - EBC M62. They put a speed camera on the mandatory 50 M606 SBC - WBC M62 which is the biggest and safest (or should be safest)radius. Just advisory 50 on M62 EBC exit - NBC M606. All well cambered but still they cannot cope!

I went past as they were recovering the vehicle and it was on the straight slip road on the WBC. God knows how they've managed to roll it there. I believe people get over-confident in 4x4s. I saw a RAV the other day nearly topple when the driver decided to pull out quickly into traffic at a T junction.
