Bradford long distance swimmer Liane Llwellyn is attempting to become the first Tyke to complete the two-way English Channel route.
Liane, of Denholme, will begin the marathon 45-mile round trip from Dover to Calais and back later this month.
The 27-year-old is no stranger to the marathon effort. She completed the one-way swim in 2005 in slightly more than 11 hours.
She is now aiming to raise more than £5,000 for the Outward Bound Trust.
Liane, who has swum for City of Bradford, Bradford Dolphin and Halifax clubs, has swum since she was three and was introduced to the long distance discipline by her sister Dee.
Liane said: “It is the biggest thing I have ever done. It is a huge personal challenge.
“I have been training for the past two years. I have done long swims all over Europe and I feel like I am fully prepared.
“I am a bit nervous with a week or so to go. I just want to get on with it now.
“The hardest thing will be will be staying awake. Fatigue obviously kicks in. That’s why I am trying to get as much rest as possible this week.”
Only 16 people have accomplished the feat in the past and if Liane is successful she will be only the third British woman to do so.
