A Bradford woman who falsely reported her car as stolen has been fined for wasting police time.
The 20-year-old, of Undercliffe Lane, Undercliffe, drove off after a collision without swapping details with the other driver.
She then caused damage to her own car and reported it as stolen.
After investigation she admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice and she was issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice.
Inspector Tim Done, head of Bradford Moor, Bowling and Barkerend Neighbourhood Policing Team, yesterday said: “This woman completely wasted our time and diverted resources away from genuine victims of crime.
“If you make a report of a crime to the police, we will investigate it.
“If you are lying however, we will find out and deal with you.
“Our officers do a difficult enough job without people making up crimes for us to investigate.”
