An author, an artist, an actor and an ornithologist are among the distinguished figures who are set to receive honorary degrees from the University of Bradford.
They will receive their awards from the university’s Chancellor, Imran Khan, during degree ceremonies in the university’s Great Hall later this month.
Professor Mark Cleary, vice-chancellor of the university, announced the list of honorary graduates yesterday and said he was proud to honour such distinguished colleagues.
Sir Terry Pratchett OBE will receive a Doctor of Letters for his work as a science fiction and fantasy writer and for his contribution in raising awareness of the need for research funding in relation to Alzheimer’s Disease and his outstanding donation to the Alzheimer’s Trust.
Jan Fletcher OBE will receive a Doctor of Letters for her contributions to employment and enterprise in Yorkshire, and for her work as an ambassador for the region in the field of international business.
John Mather will receive a Doctor of Science for his long standing contributions to ornithology.
Don Whitely will also receive a Doctor of Science for his achievements in the field of applied microbiology, in particular through the new technologies designed and manufactured by Don Whitely Scientific Limited.
Geetha Upadhyaya will receive a Doctor of Letters for her achievements as artistic director and chief executive officer of Kala Sangam, promoting South Asian and interdisciplinary arts in Bradford and across the country.
Alan Jerome will be made an honorary Doctor of the University for his exceptional contributions over many years as Pro-Chancellor and member of the University of Bradford Council.
Matt Lamb will receive a Doctor of Letters for his contributions to contemporary art and his work as a peace activist.
Colin and Wendy Parry will be made honorary Doctors of the University for their work as Co-Founders of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace.
Bradford-born actor and Spooks star Peter Firth will receive a Doctor of Letters for his film and television work.
