Prestigious award for Bradford University

The University of Bradford’s Ecoversity project has won two prestigious awards.

Ecoversity competed with more than 170 applications from more than 100 universities and colleges to win the institutional change category in the Green Gown Awards for its Beyond Greening project.

It was also highly commended in the curriculum category, for its work involving sustainable development in the students’ education and accommodation.

The Ecoversity project was short-listed for two further categories, Student Initiatives and Greening ICT.

The Green Gown judges said: “Ecoversity is an ambitious project which demonstrates how, with the right strategy and commitment, change and sustainability can be achieved across an entire university.

“The application demonstrated strong senior management support, student engagement and academic commitment across all subject areas.”

Deputy vice chancellor Professor Geoff Layer said: “It is fantastic that the entire university community has been recognised for our whole institutional programmes which have required massive commitment and inputs from staff and students over the last five years.

“We are in the process of developing more ambitious policies for areas such as carbon and energy to show leadership in the sector.”
