Kirsty Wilson murder trial told of child's cries

A daughter of a Mercedes-Benz executive allegedly strangled and set on fire by her partner cried “I want mummy” as he took her from the blaze, the Old Bailey heard today.

Alan Jermey is accused of murdering 34-year-old Kirsty Wilson, whose parents live in Bradford, at their home in Woking, Surrey, after learning she planned to leave him for her married boss.

Neighbour Juliet Monk told the court she saw him after he clambered on to an extension roof behind the four-bedroom house with the couple’s two daughters.

Mrs Monk said she had opened her front door just before midnight after hearing a child calling out.

She told the jury: “The child was screaming something to the effect of ‘I want mummy, I want mummy’.

At one point the child made a dash as if running back to the bathroom window and the father was obviously trying to keep the child calm. He was trying to quieten her down.”

Mr Jermey did not make any calls for help, she said.

“At that point it all seemed sort of surreal,” she said. “I couldn’t understand what on earth you’d be doing on a flat roof because I couldn’t see any smoke or any evidence of fire. I thought it was strange.”

Mrs Monk, who no longer lives at the address, said the area was “very quiet”.

“In the 14 years that we were there, there was only the odd misdemeanour that happened,” she said.

She said she would occasionally see Jermey running and often “doing some sort of martial arts in the back garden”.

Earlier this week Miss Wilson’s parents, Peter and Sandra Wilson, were in tears as they gave evidence to the jury. Jermey, 41, denies murdering Miss Wilson in August last year.

The trial continues.
