The refurbished Cleckeaton War Memorial is to be re-dedicated on Saturday, June 27, by Major General Jonathan Shaw, Colonel Commandant of the Parachute Regiment, on Armed Forces Day.

Representatives from 4 Parachute Regiment will be at the ceremony which will include the addition to the memorial of the names of service personnel lost in conflict since 1948 to the present date.

The name of Sergeant Christian Hickey, of East Bierley, who died in a bomb blast in Basra in 2005, will be added to the memorial.

The Major General is the son of Lord and Lady Shaw who live in Roberttown. He will be continuing a family tradition as it was his grandfather, Lt Col Mowat DSO MC, who dedicated the memorial in 1922.

A parade will leave Cleckheaton Town Hall at 10.30am.
