Rugby star gets ball rolling

Former Great Britain skipper and St Helens loose forward Paul Sculthorpe helped unveil two major Keighley Cougar community programmes at Cougar Park today.

The rugby league star was in town to mark the start of two ‘street academy’ initiatives.

The link-up Bradford Council’s Building Capacity through Cohesion in the Community programme will see a mixture of children’s games, combined with rugby skills, delivered to youngsters from the district’s Asian community at parks throughout Keighley.

It starts on Wednesday at Victoria Park, Keighley, and ends with a festival on Saturday, May 30.

The Incommunities Street Academies programme will start at Brackenbank Community Centre in Keighley on Friday, May 8, and it will end with a day-long festival at Cougar Park on Saturday, June 27.

Cougars chairman Neil Spencer said: “We believe that we are part of the town’s community and we’re delighted to have established partnerships with both Bradford Council and Incommunities so that we can undertake such exciting projects as the Street Academies.”
