Le Mans racer to star at classic car show

More than 150 performance and classic vehicles will go on show in Bradford during the city’s fourth annual car show.

Star of the show will be a Jaguar Group 44 XJR-5 racing car, which competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race in the 1980s.

Penny Mallory, the world’s first woman rally driver and TV personality, will be on hand to provide commentary and judge a car competition during the two-day Bradford Classic Car Show event in Centenary Square over the weekend of July 18 and 19.

Bob Parker, Bradford Council manager, said: “This is our fourth annual Bradford Classic and this year promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

“We have lots of special surprises which we will announce as we get nearer the show.”

Many cars have been provided by Jaguar Heritage and Aston Martin. Saturday will see more than 80 classic cars on display, including the Le Mans Jaguar, which competed in the 24 hour Le Mans race in 1984 and 1985, driven by Bob Tullius, Chip Robinson and Jean-Claude Ballot-Lena.

Classic car enthusiasts are also invited to bring their cars to the show, with Penny judging Best In Show and handing out prizes.

There will also be a free vintage bus service ferrying people from Centenary Square to see the car collection on display at the Speedmaster showroom and conference centre at Greengates.

Sunday will see 60 performance and competition classic cars and an auction of Jaguar memorabilia among other events. Visitors will also be able to see the latest cars from Jaguar and there will be a special Jaguar Concours D’Elegance and parade.

Bradford-born Jaguar Heritage executive director and founding trustee Peter Mitchell will drive from Coventry in one of his own classic cars, a 1959 Jaguar XK150 to judge the Concours.

Mmmm Penny Mallory, there's something sexy about a woman who can drive a car through a forest faster than you can drive on a motorway.
And spend most of the time sideways too :)
