Mohammed Ajeeb is to be recognised for his achievements at an awards ceremony at Westminster
Britain’s first Asian Lord Mayor and former long-serving Bradford councillor will tonight be recognised in Westminster for his achievements.
Mohammed Ajeeb was elected to Bradford Council in 1979 and became Lord Mayor in 1985-1986.
He will pick up a Life Time Achievement Award at the Asian Voice’s Political and Public Life Awards for his services to the community.
He said: “It is an honour that I was considered for the award and it is nice to be recognised for my services. I am absolutely delighted to be receiving it.”
In 2001 Mr Ajeeb was awarded the CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Bradford West MP Marsha Singh said: “I was pleased to put him forward for the award and I am delighted he will receive it. He has worked very hard for 20 years as a councillor in Bradford. He has served Bradford very well and has done excellent work for community relations.”
