A crackdown on anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking begins in Bradford this weekend.
West Yorkshire Police, Bradford Council, the Youth Offending Team, youth workers and voluntary youth activity providers will work together during the six week Staysafe operation which starts in Holme Wood.
Other areas to be tackled include Thornbury, Bradford Moor, Queensbury, Scholemoor and Whetley Hill.
Inspector Esther Hobbs, who is leading the operation for the police, said: “We will be looking at offering diversions to the young people, as well as carrying out the enforcement side of the operation.
“Anyone caught drinking under-age will have their alcohol confiscated and will be educated about the issues of drinking.
“Anti-social behaviour will be dealt with in a similar way – by trying to get to the bottom of the causes and offering help to young people.”
Councillor Martin Smith, Bradford Council’s executive member for Safer Communities, said: “Street-based teams of youth workers from both the Council and voluntary organisations will be out in hotspot areas alongside the police, encouraging young people to go along to weekend activities laid on especially for them.”
