A 13-year-old girl has died after her father’s Bentley was involved in a horror crash only yards from her Bradford home.

The tragedy happened when the Bentley Silver Spur being driven by the girl’s 41-year-old father was involved in a collision with a BMW 530i in Haworth Road, near the junction of Thorn Drive, in Heaton.

The girl, who had not been named by police last night, died at Leeds General Infirmary yesterday morning after being transferred from Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Police shut the road as emergency services worked at the scene. Firefighters had to cut through the wreckage to get to the trapped teenager, who had been a front-seat passenger.

Paramedics got the girl’s 12-year-old sister out of the back seat but witnesses described how their father refused to leave the vehicle as his other daughter fought for her life.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said she had been in the kitchen when she heard a “deafening bang” and saw smoke.

“I ran outside and saw the cars, I recognised the dad, he was bleeding from his head but wouldn’t get out of the car. He kept saying ‘my girls, my girls’.”

“It was just horrific. There were lots of people crowding round wanting to help but we all felt useless. The dad stayed in the car, he wouldn’t leave his daughters in there.

“There was lots of noise and chaos.”

One woman wept as she described seeing the girl’s mother running up the street in bare feet, screaming and crying.

“Someone must have told her. I won’t ever forget that sound, she was running with nothing on her feet, crying and screaming. I told my son not to look outside. I wanted to protect him,” she said.

Another neighbour said: “There were people everywhere. No-one would have been able to sleep after seeing that crash.”

People in Thorn Drive said the dead girl lived in their street with her mother who works at a nearby school, a younger sister and an older brother.

Friends of the family said the teenager and her sister had been getting a lift home when the smash happened.

The mother is believed to be separated from the children’s businessman father who lives less than quarter of a mile away.

He and his younger daughter were also taken to hospital with injuries.

Two Bradford men who were questioned by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone who saw the crash, which occurred at 8.50pm on Tuesday, or who helped at the scene afterwards should contact Detective Inspector John Priestley at Airedale and North Bradford CID on 0845 60 60 606.
