Keighley-born writer Simon Beaufoy’s screenplay for Slumdog Millionaire has won a prestigious Critics’ Choice Award.
His was among five gongs picked up by the British film which has been receiving international acclaim.
Danny Boyle picked up best director for the film, while 18-year-old Dev Patel was named best young actor/actress for his part in the story of how impoverished Indian teen Jamal Malik became a contestant on the Hindi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?
The film’s composer AR Rahman also received an award at the star-studded ceremony in Santa Monica, California, last night.
The Broadcast Film Critics Association, representing more than 200 film critics in the US and Canada, voted for the awards, which often prove to be a harbinger of Oscar nominations.
Mr Beaufoy, 42, also wrote the script for the smash hit film The Full Monty.
He was educated at Malsis School, Glusburn, and Ermysted’s Grammar School in Skipton.
