Father Christmas turned green at the weekend in a bid to publicise a refurbished recycling facility in Queensbury.

Green Santa made a guest appearance at the Household Waste Recycling Centre, in Hill End Lane.

He swapped his usual red robes for green and helped residents put their rubbish in the skips and gave advice on what can be recycled.

Bradford Council has spent £750,000 on the centre which has been expanded and fitted with modern facilities. Residents can now recycle more of their rubbish at the site, including green waste, fluorescent tubes, paint, batteries, white goods, shoes and textiles.

The revamped site will stay open longer, from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 9am until 4pm on Sunday.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, the executive member for environment and culture, said: “Many families will be having a clear out this time of year so it’s important to think about our rubbish and what we do with it.”
