Steve Huison is relishing his role as a neighbour from hell on the nation’s most famous street.

The Shipley actor plays Eddie Windass, head of a chaotic clan which this week moved into Coronation Street from the wrong side of Weatherfield.

The family pulled up on the cobbles in a ramshackle old van and moved into the Mortons’ former home, to the dismay of next-door-neighbours the Platts.

Steve first appeared on the soap last month when his family were confronted by David Platt over a bounced cheque used to pay for their fitted kitchen.

Now the Windass family – Eddie, wife Anna, son Gary and Uncle Len – are residents and Steve says they will be causing trouble this Christmas.

“Put it this way, I wouldn’t want to live next door to them!” laughed Steve. “Eddie’s a great character to play, he thinks he’s hard and head of the family, but he’s always one step behind Gary and Len.

“Eddie is always up to silly scams. He uses crutches but you may notice he doesn’t always limp with the same leg…”

This week viewers learned more about the family when Anna revealed to Gail Platt that they used to live in Spain.

“They’re constantly on the move and they mess things up wherever they are,” said Steve. “It’s different to anything I’ve done before. There’s a lot of clowning around, I love it.”

Steve admits he’s not a regular Corrie viewer – because he doesn’t watch television. “But it’s a real privilege to be in it,” he said.

“It has a 48-year tradition of making the country’s most popular show, it’s a very slick machine. It’s beautifully written and the cast and crew are lovely.”

Steve is the latest Tyke to cross the Pennines to Weatherfield. Other cast members include Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt, Jonathan Dixon, alias Daryl Morton, and Nikki Patel who plays Amber Kalirai. The trio all attended Stage 84 in Idle. Steve is best known for playing Lomper in the smash hit 1997 movie The Full Monty, written by Keighley’s Simon Beaufoy. This year he filmed The Royal Today at St Luke’s Hospital, Bradford.

Steve runs Shoestring Theatre Company in Shipley, which produces dramas raising awareness of mental health issues. He is working on a play called That’s The Way Not To Do It, about personality disorder, to be staged in January.
