Musician’s heartbreak at kit theft

A rock musician is “heartbroken” after his multi-thousand pound drum kit was stolen.

Stuart Lockwood, former drummer with local band Gypsy, had all his equipment stolen from his van.

The equipment is valued at £12,000 but Mr Lockwood, who has been performing in bands for nearly two decades, says the memories from his time with the drums are irreplaceable.

His red Ford Transit van was stolen from outside his home in Town Lane, Idle. Inside it was his drum set, lighting, smoke machine, mixing desk, microphones and amplification equipment.

He said: “They have stolen everything I have worked for over the last 20 years. The drum set is rather large and well known and some of the equipment is irreplaceable.

“Both I, and the police, were hoping that, with my drums being so easily recognisable, they would show up rather quickly if anybody tried to sell them. Unfortunately, there has been no indication my gear is likely to show up.

“We have a baby on the way, and my budget is rather restricted, and it seems unlikely I will ever be able to replace my gear.

“I am fortunate that, through friends in the music world, I’ve been able to keep playing, but it is a sad situation when my own customised kit has been the talking point of many gigs for so long, and now I have to beg and borrow my way on stage.”

Mr Lockwood plays with clubland band Guns ‘n’ Oatcakes and is well-known for his time in Gypsy.

He is offering a £500 reward for information leading to the recovery of the kit. He can be contacted on (07512) 328535.
