Students from the University of Bradford were set to create a wall of debt on campus today in protest against tuition fees and the recent Government decision to cut £100m from student support.
The protest is linked to a national day of action by National Union of Students (NUS).
In advance of the 2009 review into higher education funding, students across the country are calling on the government to provide decent financial support and abolish top-up fees.
Union officer Sophia Coles-Riley said: “We are protesting because the current system is completely unfair.
“Education is a right, not a privilege and the current system of loans, variable grants and tuition fees creates a market of education which disadvantages poor students. Education must be free and fairly funded.”
