Walkers can enjoy a preview stroll along the third and latest section of the Great Northern Trail, which is due to be officially opened later this month, on Saturday.

The nine-mile guided walk, which crosses Thornton Viaduct, is being organised by Friends of DalesRail. It will start with a bus journey from Keighley to Culling-worth and end at Clayton.

Joyce Broughton, who is leading the walk, says: “There will be extensive views from the three viaducts along the Great Northern Trail.

“However, with the wet weather the linking paths are very muddy. Those planning to take part are advised to wear appropriate clothing for winter walking – no denims or trainers – and to bring refreshments for the day.”

Walkers should meet at Keighley Station at 9.10am, to tie in with the 8.49am Settle-Carlisle train from Leeds to Keighley via Shipley. The organisers suggest that those not able to access concessionary travel should buy a Metro Rail/Bus Day Rover.
