Hat's off to care home's knitting crew!

Champion knitters have produced hundreds of hats for babies in Tibet.

The residents of Ashfield retirement home in Skipton have so far produced more than 200 hats.

Now they plan to expand their labours to include clothes for the special baby unit at Airedale Hospital, at Steeton, near Keighley.

Team manager Jane O’Neill said the knitters had quickly remembered old skills. “The residents have really enjoyed doing it, so we’re going to carry on with it and also make bootees for the special unit at Airedale Hospital,” she said.

The hats, including some made by social services department in Otley Street, Skipton, will be sent to the Save the Children Fund’s Knit Knit project in Tibet. It is hoped that the hats will prevent babies from catching pneumonia.

Mrs O’Neill urged anyone who can donate wool or knitting patterns to call her on (01756) 792881.
