Pupils up for award

One of the first schools in the district to marry portable technology with learning has been nominated for a national award.

Wilsden Primary School has been named with two other primaries in the country in the innovation category of the Handheld Learning Awards.

In September last year the school provided a handheld computer for 60 Year Four pupils. The devices were designed for use at home and school and gave children the chance to use a range of cutting-edge technology including a digital camera, mobile office and the internet.

Head teacher Bob Quarter-main said pupils, staff and parents had been “delighted” to hear of the award. “It reflects a huge investment of effort and support from our community,” he said.

Using the handheld devices are pupils Emily Swain and Max Williams. Using the handheld devices are pupils Emily Swain and Max Williams.
