Bands ready for Happy Sunday!

Home-grown talent will support headline acts including the Happy Mondays at the district’s biggest live music event.

Local musicians have signed up to the second Bingley Music Live festival which will be held in Myrtle Park at the end of August.

Included in the line-up are guitarist Kenneth Higgins, who features on Corinne Bailey Rae’s multi-platinum debut album, and Chris Dawkins, who worked on the soundtrack for film Ocean’s Eleven. Singer and guitarist Michael Mallinson will also feature.

Bradford’s own Terrorvision will share the stage with iconic Manchester band the Happy Mondays on Saturday, August 30.

Rock band Redwire, from Bradford, will also take centre stage at the two-day event, along with Hundred Dollar Cigar – another local band which will support Echo and the Bunnymen on Sunday, August 31.

Alabama 3, the British band whose Woke Up This Morning track features in hit television series The Sopranos, will play the guest slot on Sunday.

The three members of Hundred Dollar Cigar – Luke Womersley, Pat Friss and John Driscoll – formed at St Bede’s Grammar School four years ago.

The band is also set to entertain at this year’s Saltaire Festival on September 21.

Luke said: “There’s a lot of great music in Bradford and we are deeply proud to be a part of it.

“We recently competed in a battle of the bands, where we won a slot at Bingley Music Live alongside Echo and the Bunnymen and Alabama 3. We are incredibly excited about this opportunity and hope to impress and put on a great show. The opportunity to play in front of thousands of people at Bingley Music Live is ace. We can’t wait.”

Other confirmed acts include touring bands Delays and Infadels, both of which are set to perform at the V Festival today and tomorrow.

Bingley Music Live was launched last year and attracted more than 15,000 people over the two days.

The festival was shortlisted in the 2007 Best New Festival category in the Virtual Festivals awards.

Councillor Anne Hawkesworth, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Culture, said: “These acts are adding to what is already a great line-up.

“Bingley Music Live launched with a bang last year and it is just set to get better and better.”

On Saturday, August 30, gates open at 11.30am and the concert finishes at 9.30pm. On Sunday, August 31, gates open at 11.30am and the event finishes at 8.30pm. Tickets for Saturday’s events cost £12.50 in advance or £20 on the gate. To book, log on to seetickets.com or call (01274) 436000. For more information, log on to bingleymusiclive.com

Oh dear, what a faux pas by the organisers. Talk to Angels the next big thing in British music omitted form the line up. Probably wouldn't have been able to make it anyway due to the fact they are off to New York to play the American Annual Music Convention for CMJ, taking the same slot the Pigeon Detectives had last year. If anybody hasn't seen these lads yet and you get a chance I'd seriously advise it, or if you just want a listen they can be heard through their myspace and some download sites if you want to purchase their stuff. Having said that this is a great line up and I will be attending both days, loved Happy Mondays, really loved Echo and saw them on my 18th birthday at York Festival, and was a part time roadie for Terrorvision when they were Spoilt Bratz.
