Two junior football teams will be kitted out in style thanks to the Telegraph & Argus’s new Keepy Uppy Challenge competition, sponsored by Bradford’s GX Soccer.
Being in with a chance of winning brand-new football strips for you and your team-mates could not be simpler.
All you have to do is film your soccer keepy uppy skills and e-mail the footage to us.
We’ll post every entry on our website and the winners in our two age groups will be the youngsters who manage the most continuous keepy ups in a minute or less.
You could be sporting the latest in football kits thanks to GX Soccer, in Lower Globe Street, Bradford (call 01274 725133 or visit www.gxsoccer.com).
They are a bespoke football kit manufacturer providing top-quality shirts, shorts, socks, benchwear, accessories and much more for football teams of all ages.
The competition rules are simple – keep the ball in the air by bouncing it off any part of the body that is allowed in the rules of football, ie any part except the hands and arms. The ball must also move six inches or more away from the body after every contact (to allow for accurate counting), so no little taps.
All entrants must belong to an organised football team.
The under 10s’ prize is ten outfield kits and one goalkeeper kit, including shirts, shorts and socks, including numbers on the back of shirts.
The 16-and-under prize is 14 outfield kits and one goalkeeper kit, including shirts, shorts and socks, with numbers on the back of shirts.
The winners will be able to have their team’s club emblem printed on the front of the shirt (an image will need to be supplied in the correct format).
Entries must be of continuous keepy ups in a minute or less Totals will be verified by our judges.
In the event of a tie, the winner will be judged according to style and difficulty of the moves shown.
The editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered in to. Usual T&A competition rules apply, available on request.
Videos should be in one of the following three formats: Mpeg/avi, Wmv or Flash.
E-mail your videos to yourpictures@bradford.newsquest.co.uk and include your name, age, address and contact number along with the name of your football team and how many keepy-ups you have done on the video.
The closing date is Monday, August 25, 2008.
Bradford City manager Stuart McCall proved he’s a good sport by backing the Telegraph & Argus Keepy Uppy Challenge.
He met T&A TV at the Bantams’ Apperley Bridge training ground to give readers and website viewers a one-to-one masterclass.
Stuart said: “The tip is keep the ball off the ground, keep your eye on it and concentrate. Don’t get tired – a minute can be a long time in football. You can bring your thigh into it, some people bring their heads in and shoulders if they’re that good.”
Stuart managed 98 keepy ups in one minute but lasted another ten seconds.
He said: “That has to be my world, world record. Of course viewers won’t have been able to see the invisible bit of string I had to keep it off the ground. Let’s see how you can do!”
