Calls have been made for the speed limit to be reduced in Brighouse and Denholme Road, Thornton, Bradford, following an accident involving a van and a motorcycle.

The male rider escaped with minor injuries in the crash which occurred on a stretch of road with a 60mph limit.

Resident Stephen Houlden, who witnessed Monday’s accident, said: “I saw the motorcycle sliding under the van and immediately called the police and ambulance. There was a fatality a few years ago and the road is often closed because of accidents.”

Mr Houlden said he will contact Bradford Council’s Highway officers and councillors to push for the speed limit to be reduced.

Thornton and Allerton councillor Michael McCabe (Con) said: “This is something that needs to be raised at Bradford Area Committee.

“Sixty miles per hour is too fast but I’ve not received complaints from residents in the last year.

“I would encourage Mr Houlden to contact me.

“A stumbling block may be that as it is an ‘A’ road we can’t reduce the limit. We need more ammunition, like a petition.”
