Children invited to go for district gold

Young athletes are being urged to run, jump and swim their way to sign up for Bradford's Olympic games.

The three-day event from Tuesday, May 27, to Friday, May 29, is being held every year in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics in London.

The games are organised by Bradford Council's youth service, in partnership with the Council's leisure services and the adventure activities development unit.

On the Tuesday a swimming gala with be held at Bradford University, followed by a biathlon featuring cycling and archery at Richard Dunn Sports Centre and then badminton.

On the Wednesday, there will be a regatta at Doe Park in Denholme with sailing, kayaking and canoeing. Then on the final day, there will be track field events held at Horsfall Stadium near Buttershaw.

Outdoor education officer Mike Burtoft said training was already underway for those wanting to take part in the regatta and the biathlon but he said places were still available for the track and field events, badminton and swimming.
