Pub bids to break a record

12:04pm Sunday 11th May 2008

A pub is calling on people to help it beat a world wine-tasting record.

The Devonshire on Newmarket Street, Skipton, will join other Wetherspoon pubs across the country in an attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records.

And on Wednesday, May 21, it will be hoping hundreds of people will come along, taste a free glass of wine and help beat the current record for synchronised wine tasting.

Pub manager Andy Scott said he hoped enough people would turn up to help beat the world record of 5,100 tasters.

"This is a great opportunity for people to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt," he said.

"All they have to do is come to the pub and enjoy a glass of wine at the same time as other customers in Wetherspoon pubs across the UK."

The event will kick off a 19-day wine festival which will run until Sunday, June 8.
