Eddie Johnson was the big-name casualty this afternoon as Stuart McCall swung the axe through his City squad.

High-earner Johnson, pictured, was among 13 players to be released by McCall, along with the likes of Darren Williams, Paul Evans, Tom Penford and Alex Rhodes.

Barry Conlon and Kyle Nix are the only senior players coming out of contract to be offered new ones. There are also deals on the table for Luke Medley, Luke O'Brien and Sean Taylforth.

Johnson played 71 times since joining City two years ago, scoring eight goals. But having arrived as a striker, he has appeared most of this season in central midfield.

Right back Williams has made 31 appearances and midfielder Evans 28 in his second spell at the club.

Craig Bentham and Scott Phelan are both out the door as well as all three contracted keepers - Donovan Ricketts, Ben Saynor and Jamie Waite - and youngsters David Brown, Luke Morgan and Damian Hopkins.

SM,has well & truly cleared the decks,it appears the learning curve is well & truly now over, is this the start of a "McCall Revolution" for season 2008/2009?

Regarding the contracts offered for me Nix has definitely earned a contract,& also well done to "Big Bazza" he has improved no end from the start of the season.

Roll on the close season signings Tommo etc.

Onwards & Surely Upwards next season !!

Difficult to argue with any of it. I am actually surprised that Conlon has been given a new deal. Although he is popular and usually works hard, I believe that there are better centre forwards for League 2. Oh well, but for Daley, he has a good basis for a squad. I am assuming that in letting these players go that he expects to be able to bring in better ones over the summer - that should be a positive for everyone - except for Mr Senseless of-course.

Stuart has now got a cleanish canvas to rebuild for next season and got rid of the dead wood.
However i think that it was stated he would only be bringing 5 players in.
he is going to need 2 keepers so i think we will need a few more than that to replace those not given contracts.
It will be an interesting close season to see who arrives. how many will be loan signings I wonder ?

Looking at it, he will probably bring in a loan keeper and a young keeper. We then need a right back (Starosta back on loan?)

Defo need a left back, another centre mid and another striker.

Naturally, we need a left winger too as we don't have one if Nix gets injured...

spot on Stu , a few maybe suprised about Johnson ,but the lads only average and we need more than that next year .
Keeping Conlan not too shocked there as the old lad can change a game when he comes on ,and i bet he is not on that much a week ,about as much as Shaun from richmond (two Bob)

No real arguments. I, too, think Penford could have been retained but it could be said "How long do you wait for the youngsters to blossom?"

Conlon is probably worth keeping as Thorne will need the odd rest.

A deciding factor is the money these players are on, which probably went against Johnson, and in Conlon's favour.

Spot on Stuart,Johnson was very average to say the least and probably the highest wage earner still there and just didnt justify his wage.Nix definetley deserved new contract his work ethic even when struggling is A1,Conlon also deserved new contract.Well done Stuart cant wait to see who we bring in.But please please dont lets hang around for new signings if you want to kick start season ticket sales for next season we need a statement of intent from the club by way of good quality players in a matter a few weeks time.

Well done Stu, I'm sure it took a lot of guts to release so many, but in retort clearly outlines the intentions of both him, and the board, sure ML has said bring in 5, but I think he means first XI, squad players will be added on the back of these trials etc, players that show, heart, fight and desire, everything McGod was as a player, and everything he will demand as a manager. I can't wait to read on a regular basis who we have signed. I agree with son1jacob, lets try show supporters our intent by landing a quality player early to hopefully swell the season ticket sales. Onwards and now upwards. CTID

Doesn't this go the complete opposite way to what Lawn was saying the other day?! Glad Bazza and Nix have got contracts, would have liked Williams to get one too. Very pleased EJ has gone he really is a pointless player. I'm sure Stuart has some irons in the fire regards to new signings - defo need a classy centre midfield player similar to Andrews at MK or Perkins at Rochdale.

Sorry to see Penford go, still think he had a lot to offer but the promise has not been fulfilled. Had he accepted a 'lesser' contract may still have shone. I guess EJ has had his chances. The others really did not show anything to merit retention. If you add the three loanees plus David Wetherall that is SEVENTEEN who have left. I guess it free's up the wage bill 9 quality signings may do the trick.

As for the rest, i've got no arguments. Barry is exactly what we need at times in this division. One question, does Colbeck already have a deal in the bag?

That may be so, but I would still offer him the contract over Johnson. As Geordie Bantam described him, 'he is a pointless player'. He isn't good enough as a striker and can't cut it in midfield. Why keep a player like that?? At least Bazza can hold the ball up and play in his strike partner. A good pre-season for him and some extra shooting practice could see him become a key player for us next season.

I agree with Nix's deal too. He has deserved his contract offer. As for Colbeck,
he has another year to go on his contract and is one of the lucky few not to be involved in the scramble for new deals come the end of the season

Personally, I don't think we will be looking for a left back as we have Heckingbottom and he has offered a new deal to Luke O'Brien. I see he has also offered new deals to Taylforth and Medley and as we have Daley, I believe McCall thinks we have left wing covered too. Besides, if Thomson is coming, does McCall believe he can play left wing with Colbeck on the right?

I am interested in who he is looking for in midfield. Once again we have a clean piece of paper for this area of the park and only Bullock & Nix can currently play their football there (Nix being another player who can cover left wing too). I believe we need at least 2 central midfielders to vie for a position alongside Bullock. We need 2 decent keepers too and a couple of strikers. We also need a couple of right backs and a central defender. My guess is McCall will be looking to sign 8 players in total.

I will be keeping my fingers crossed that Hull get promoted. We would certainly need Nathan Doyle more than they would. Personally, I can't see the attraction in bringing back Starosta. He was disappointing and couldn't even make the right back position his own when Williams was struggling for form. Same goes for Moncur. I would like to see Nicky Law back on a season long loan though if available.

I would like to see Nicky Law back on a season long loan though if available.

he may want to but

JEFFERS-- has had more clubs where he has failed and inmjusry prone.

LESTER-- unless he has benn released by Chesterfield why should he upsticks from his home in that area just now--- scoring goals at a club he likes and still living in his home area.

there will be thousands of players desperate for contracts so let's see what our very limited budget can bring in.

I don't think he would accept a pay-as-you-play deal as he knows he would earn next to nothing next season.

McCall has had some stick this season, but his decision regarding released players is excellent. Johnson (and Penford for that matter) simply didn't do enough for me. If we are going to go for it next season, these are the positions we must improve and there are far better midfielders out there than those two.

I am a little disappointed we didn't offer new deals to the young lads though, even if they were only one year extensions.

I was so disgusted at our last home game at what I saw I am in 2 minds in reporting it to the police. For years, many supporters have made their unhappyness of the stewarding at Valley Parade full aware to the club and to the Telegraph & Argus, and as a club they have always defended the heavy handed actions of the nazi style bully tactics they employ. A couple of home games ago I was accused of being a criminal because I was carrying a can of cola and treated as such, all I wanted was a drink, my first one of the day, if there was reasonably priced drinks in the ground I would buy within, I bet the same steward would not stop a woman with lets say a metal flask about 2 or 3 times bigger which would be a more serious weapon. I bought a scarf from the shop as it was cold, so in a great mood, smiling walking towards the turnstyles, and then how am I treated within 5 minutes, I am searched before being let into the ground, anyone would have thought I had knicked the thing, nice customer service by the way if the club are reading this and want some feedback. I was so incensed at that point I have decided to disassociate myself from Bradford City and especially the ground as soon as my season ticket ran out and I will never ever set a foot in Valley Parade ever again till these little Hitlers are removed and replaced, and I am not the only one either. I was so close to taking action against this slander as I was so offended to be called a criminal just because "he did not know me". Constantly they bully little kids in and around me, to make themselves feel omnipotent, yet they never ever confront adults or anyone near their own size.

The incident which has actually made me contact Bradford City, to which I may I have had no reply at all, so I am really incences to make a national newspaper investigate the goings on at Valley Parade and shame the club or maybe, just maybe, I will make an official complaint to the police against the club as their lack of a response and constant defending of the stewards is so obvious they approve of such behaviour. So what I saw was damned right too far in my own opinion, I do not care what City class supporters as, young, old, male, female, black or white, at the end of the day, we are CUSTOMERS, and all we want after a week at work, or in some cases, school, is to get out and enjoy ourselves, yet the stewards are doing all they can to spoil people's experience at Valley Parade. Towards the end of the match, it was so obvious that a lot of people, mainly kids, would run onto the pitch in their masses, so what did the stewards do, just stand there leaving gaps knowing they would be be futile in trying, YET the area supervisor in front of the kop, the one that wears the blue jacket, middle aged with dark short hair took it upon himself to assault little kids running on the pitch, I saw him deliberately target small children by kicking hard at their ankles, some he missed, but he lashed out about half a dozen times, one small boy aged about 5 falling to his knees. If I hear one complaint to the police, I will definitely contact them as a witness to back them up as this was blatant deliberate physical assault on minors, it would have been interesting to see if he actually tried it with an adult. I do not want to see it in any form on adults in society, let alone an adult to young children. I still am in 2 minds to report it to the police and the person sat next to me also witnessed it. I have seen similar before at Valley Parade, but contact has not been made and personally, I have had enough of the treatment I receive and I constantly see. I would love to hear any thoughts on this as the club are not interested one little bit, in the past not listened to many fans, or in the present, be it City or the Bulls supporters comments several seasons ago when they spent 2 years at Valley Parade. I just have never had this or witnessed this at any other ground, be it in none league, international, football or Rugby League or Union.

This is one MORE supporter never stepping foot into Colditz in Bradford. I am taking my money elsewhere, I just need to decide where, but one thing is for certain, it certainly will not be Valley Parade, Elland Rd or Galpharm.

I wonder if I will get a reply from the club before I do make either the police or a national newspaper aware of the goings on which the club are fully aware of and are not prepared to do anything.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
