About 50 people joined a peaceful protest against alleged racism at a Bradford car dealership.

The protest followed the resignation by seven members of staff at the Evans Halshaw Citroen dealership in King's Road. They say the firm has failed to take appropriate action about complaints of racist comments made to staff.

The demonstration took place outside the showroom at about 4.30pm yesterday and included employees, customers and the public.

Adam Alam, one of the seven employees who quit on Wednesday, said: "I have worked here for six years and now I have been victimised for my skin colour.

"I'm getting married in July and I have bills to pay but we are here to say that such racist comments are disgusting and unacceptable. We are here to show that we are all together, black and white, united in the pursuit of justice."

Joe Norris, who only started work at the firm a week ago, was supporting his colleagues. Speaking from the protest, he said: "I have only been working here a short time but I find it intolerable that this has been allowed to happen.

"I had no hesitation coming out to support my colleagues. We all worked together, black and white, and got on really well - we are all brothers and for someone to turn round and say what they did is disgusting."

No-one at Evans Halshaw would comment.
