Training clinics open across the city

4:45pm Saturday 8th March 2008

Training on your own, in the dark or the cold, or when you have set-backs, can be really difficult. Running in a group of a similar ability helps you maintain your motivation. It also offers you the chance to build up friendships with other like-minded people - or invest in what can be your support network for the future.

In the period up to the Bradford 10k on 20 April you can join training runs in various localities with groups of your own ability, all of which are supervised by qualified UK Athletics coaches.

The sessions are free, apart from small fees (of £1 or £1.50) required for the hire of facilities. All sessions are from 7pm to about 8.45pm (parking, changing rooms, toilets and showers are all available).

Youth Runners (aged 8 to 18) - these sessions are also suitable for "family groups" of grown-ups and children - all supervisors have passed the relevant police checks and appropriate child protection and welfare policies are in place.

Friday evenings @ Idle

Coach: Tony Myers - contact him on (01274 584983) or email him on tony.myers@blueyonder.co.uk .

Meet Tony at the entrance gate to Idle Cricket Club (Cavendish Road, off Bradford Road, Idle). Please note that the minimum age for taking part in the Bradford 10k is 15 years of age.

Beginner or Novice Runners - for you the challenge is to complete the distance or to do so in comfort.

The sessions will teach you stretching and warming-up techniques (to help prevent injuries) and will progressively increase your mileage, stamina and fitness.

Thursday evenings @ Shipley

Coach: Graham Eastell - contact him on (01274 595523) or geastell@hotmail.com .

Meet Graham at the reception to Green's Health & Fitness Centre (Fred Atkinson Way, off Otley Road, Lower Baildon) to get an entry badge.

Intermediate or Experienced Runners - you have completed several 10k races and want to progress further.

The sessions are structured with a variety of longer runs (of an hour's duration), specialist training (such as hill runs), exercises to build leg-speed, measured-miles, or interval sessions (such as 3 x 5min at race pace).

Monday evenings @ Eccleshill

Coaches: Hazel & Terry Maddocks - contact them on (01274 587758) or tmjoiners@blueyonder.co.uk .
