Keen gardeners at Allerton Primary are set to turn unused land on the school premises into an allotment.
Youngsters have been working with learning mentor Richard Berry to clear an area currently covered in brambles and undergrowth.
School business manager Lesley Barratt said: "It's quite a nice area which we plan to grow flowers on and then sell to raise funds.
"We also hope to set-up our own bird-watching club. It's important for the children to be aware of the environment and how important it is to look after it. It's a case of nurturing their interest."
The allotment will be monitored by the school's gardening club which has proved extremely popular with youngsters.
