A plastic bath was set alight by a burning cigarette at a nursing home in Heaton.
Occupants were evacuated from the area at Greystones Nursing Home, Parsons Road, as firefighters from Fairweather Green and Shipley tackled the blaze at around 10.30pm on New Year's Eve.
Officers attended for around 45 minutes.
