A would-be car-jacker waved a gun at a motorist in an attempted armed robbery in broad daylight yesterday.

Police are appealing for witnesses after four men in a stolen car pulled up in front of a man driving a black Vauxhall Vectra in East Bowling, Bradford, forcing him to stop.

Three of the men jumped out of the car, a white Toyota Carina, and tried to wrench open the door of the Vectra, while his car was stationary near a roundabout at the junction of Hall Lane and Prospect Street.

One of the suspects was believed to be carrying a gun, police said.

The driver of the Vectra managed to drive away before the men could get into the car, and the men drove off.

The attempted robbery happened at 3pm on Friday afternoon.

Police in Bradford South are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery.

The car, which had the registration number L991NHL, is believed to have been stolen earlier in the day.

Anyone with information or potential witnesses should contact PC 2913 Ann Cunningham at Bradford South Police on (01274) 376459.
