SHOCKING footage has shown the moment a Bradford private hire driver’s car was torched on his drive, in what he believes was a targeted attack.

Aurangzeb Khan’s Volvo S40 was set alight by a lone attacker early on Wednesday morning.

The man walks up to the car’s window before smashing it and then starting a fire in the driver’s seat, before walking away.

Mr Khan, 57, of Fifth Avenue, Bradford Moor, said this is the latest in a number of attacks on his car over the past few years.

He said: “I have kids, I now fear for the safety of my family.

“This was a next level job, what’s going to be next?

“Within 10 seconds we heard the alarm. My wife looked out the window and my neighbour notified me.

“I got up, my son got up and we hosed it down and waited for the fire brigade. Just imagine if the car had gone up, if we’d been 20 seconds later.

“If it was touching the house, the window would have smashed, and it might have set alight my neighbour’s new car.

“It was 100 per cent targeted and I also found out that five minutes prior the guy was walking up and down the street.

“He was described as a white guy, walking up and down at half eight in the evening.

“I can’t point my finger. All I want is someone to look at the footage and identify the culprit.”

“I want a conviction. I want to know who’s behind it, who paid them, what are their motivations, and what next? These are the questions I want answering.”

“Its affecting my life in more ways than one. Where do I go for insurance? I’m a taxi driver, this is my livelihood. How am I going to get from A to B?”

“I do have my suspicions, my doubts, but innocent until proven guilty.”

“I do want some thing to be done, it’s too much for me now. The Crime Prevention Officer came down and told me what to do for better security. I’ve got bigger cameras. What else can I do?”

Mr Khan, who drives for Uber and has lived in Fifth Avenue for 20 years, said his car was also attacked in 2014 and in 2012, with both incidents reported to police.

He added that it is now making it increasingly difficult to find insurance for his car.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said an investigation into the attack is ongoing.

He said: “Enquiries are continuing into this incident which is believed to have happened at around 12.25am on Wednesday, August 29.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference number 13180429548, or use the live chat facility on the West Yorkshire Police website.

“Information can also be reported anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
